What is the difference between peak, RMS, and LUFS normalization?
Peak normalization applies one gain change so the loudest sample reaches the selected ceiling. RMS normalization targets average signal level instead; it is not LUFS loudness normalization. RMS processing can push peaks above 0 dB, so this tool hard-limits them and may introduce distortion at aggressive targets.
What dB target should I use for peak normalization?
For peak normalization, a target such as -0.1 dB or -0.3 dB leaves a small sample-peak margin. RMS is an average-level measurement, not LUFS, so do not use an RMS value as a substitute for a platform loudness specification. Preview the result and use a true loudness meter when delivery compliance matters.
Does audio normalization reduce quality?
The tool exports a 16-bit WAV at the original sample rate. WAV is uncompressed here, but processing and quantizing the result to 16-bit does not make the workflow mathematically lossless or restore quality missing from the source.
How do I make an audio file louder without clipping?
Use peak normalization with a target just below 0 dB, such as -0.1 dB or -0.3 dB. The tool applies one gain change to move the highest sample to that ceiling, so it can raise or lower the file while leaving a small sample-peak margin.
