Set the start and end around the speech, hook, sample, or musical phrase you need. Zoom in on the waveform and leave enough room for the first transient and final decay; cutting through either one can sound clipped even when the timestamps are technically correct.

Use a short fade when the boundary does not land on silence or a zero crossing. Preview the selection before export: a fade removes clicks and softens an abrupt edge, but a long fade can erase consonants, drum attacks, or the tail you meant to keep.

Why should I add a fade after trimming audio?
A fade is a short volume ramp at the new start or end of the clip. It can reduce clicks from an abrupt cut and make an entrance or exit less sudden, but you should still preview the boundary before exporting.
Does trimming an MP3 reduce audio quality?
The export is an uncompressed 16-bit WAV at the decoded file's original sample rate. It avoids another lossy codec pass, but converting an MP3 or AAC source to WAV cannot restore audio information already removed by the source compression.
How do I make a ringtone or short audio clip?
Select the part you want to keep, use short fades to avoid clicks, then download the trimmed clip for a ringtone, video, podcast, or social post.
Why can a cut create a click or pop?
A cut made away from a zero crossing can jump abruptly between sample values and create a click. Add a short fade at the new start or end, then preview the boundary with headphones before exporting.
