SongFinder is free, needs no account, and most of it runs inside your browser rather than on a server. This is the full map of what is here and — more usefully — which tool to reach for when.

The tools split into four groups by what you already have in your hands. That is the only question you can answer immediately, so it is the fastest way to choose.

Find a song

Song recognition

Upload a file, paste a media URL, or record from your microphone at the recognizer.

Your clip runs through independent engines in sequence, each with its own fingerprint database: AudD first, then ACRCloud, then AudioTag as the long-poll safety net for rare tracks. A fourth engine, Shazam, runs when it is configured and the earlier engines have left enough time budget. A miss on one does not end the search.

The whole chain is time-boxed. Every hop has a bounded timeout so the worst case stays clear of the edge proxy's read limit — you get an answer or a clean failure, never a hang.

Advanced options open the part most people miss:

• Waveform region selection — drag to pick exactly which seconds get analysed. Choruses fingerprint far better than intros
• Preview — hear the selected region before spending a recognition on it
• Pre-processing in place — run noise reduction, normalize, EQ or speed correction without leaving the page, then recognize again

Lyric Finder

Fingerprinting needs the recording. When all you have is a half-remembered line, search the words instead. Four to eight words works best — two match everything, a whole verse matches nothing because you have misremembered part of it.

Mood Finder

For when you cannot even name the words. Describe the scene — late night drive, rainy Sunday — and search on that.

Song BPM & Key Finder

Tempo, musical key and Camelot code for any released track. It shows you the candidate recordings rather than guessing: a remaster carries its own ISRC and can sit in a different key from the original.

Music Genre Finder

Genre plus the finer community style tags. Two sources are shown side by side because they answer different questions — the catalogue genre reflects how a release was filed for sale, the style tags describe how the music actually sounds. When they disagree, that disagreement is the useful part.

Two workflows worth knowing

Recognition keeps failing. Change one thing at a time and re-run after each — stacking three fixes at once teaches you nothing about which one helped. Crowd noise → noise reduction. Too quiet → normalize. A sped-up edit → Speed & Pitch back toward 1.0×. Only the intro captured → select the chorus instead.

Building a set. Look up the codes, group by tempo band, then let the set generator propose an order and move things around to shape the energy. There is more on that here.
